If you haven't been keeping up with your comics media, here's some key links and reviews for you to check out what we've got going on in the news!

'BPRD' Renumbers From Issue #100 In October [Interview + Exclusive Art]

Beginning with the third issue of October's B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth: Return Of The Master, publisher Dark Horse Comics is getting serious about the "ongoing" part of that popular description, and for good reason: that issue will mark the 100th installment of B.P.R.D. since the Hellboy spinoff began in 2003.

How I drew Willow from Buffy The Vampire Slayer

David Mack — who you may know from such comics as Kabuki, Daredevil, and Alias — recently gave io9 an exclusive tour of his sketchbook. He's illustrating the covers for Dark Horse Comics' upcoming Willow miniseries, which sees Buffy The Vampire Slayer's resident witch attempt to reclaim her lost magic. Here's Mack's ethereal art and his commentary about the design process.

This is a Tyrion Lannister Statue

Next year, Dark Horse Comics will be releasing this 10" likeness of Tyrion Lannister, as portrayed by Peter Dinklage.

Mr. Dinklage recently won an Emmy for his portrayal as Tyrion.  His performance in the Battle of Blackwater (depicted in the statue) was particularly good, as the diminutive Lannister was forced to assume the role of a battlefield leader, fending off the marauding forces of Stannis Baratheon.

Dark Horse's Buffy, Angel, And Spike Cover Artists Get Up Front With MTV Geek

They say don't judge a book by its cover, but it's also impossible not to be drawn in by the art on Dark Horse's "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" line of comics. With work by Steve Morris, Jenny Frison, David Mack, and Phil Noto, it's also pretty easy to see why the covers would be so attractive.

ON SALE THIS WEEK IN REVIEWS

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike #1

"Who better to write it than Spike fanboy himself, Victor Gischler? Taking a fan favourite like Spike and giving him his own adventure away from the BuffyVerse is very risqué, but it proves to be a great choice for the brooding vamp." - Bloody Disgusting

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike #1 is surprisingly light-hearted and joke-ridden. Full of boozing diatribes yes, but also full of puns and good cheer as Spike and the bugs both try and get his mind off of Buffy. Spike thinks and speaks a lot. Lot more text than in Buffy or Angel & Faith, not sure if this is a writer’s preference or just geared toward Spike’s inner musings this issue." - Three If By Space

Dark Horse Presents #15

"If you enjoy comics (I have to assume you do since you’re reading this) and you’ve got eight bucks to spare then there’s no good reason for you to let Dark Horse Presents #15 pass you by." - Comic Bastards

"The new issue of Dark Horse's prestigious anthology series that showcases emerging talent alongside some of the greatest writers, artists and cartoonists comics has to offer, as well as promising new and underground talents." - Comics Alliance

Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1

"The way it is written just fits their characters well and you can tell that David Gaider will have a memorable adventure when they finally finish. Hopefully that will not be for some time because Bioware and the Dark Horse team up has been giving us great comics so far. If you are even remotely a fan of Dragon Age you should check out The Silent Grove and then Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1." - VG Revolution

"If you have never played Dragon Age but like fantasy stories, then give this book or the recent graphic novel Dragon Age: The Silent Grove a try; they are both wonderful, exciting examples of the fantasy genre in comic book form." - Fanboy Comics

Fatima: The Blood Spinners #3

"There is a sheer elegance with Gilbert Hernandez’s simplicity. It astounds me how just a few, well placed ink lines can evoke to the reader that Fatima is a strong an attractive female. His pages are never crowded and never go more than 5 a page and allow you to pace the action and the narration that happens in the story. There’s a lot of great old sci-fi/horror stuff in here, and Hernandez gives us the gore and the disturbing in a great, pulpy style." - Read Comic Books

"This is another strange and exciting story that shows no matter how bad things get, they can get worse. The team's plans were disrupted and now there are few humans left. And some are turncoats.

Through all of this, Fatima is forced to work through some of the emotions she's been ignoring. This is a scary story and a sexy tale and the best zombie comic on the stands." - Technorati

Lobster Johnson: The Prayer of Neferu (one-shot)

"Lobster Johnson: The Prayer of Neferu" is just like all the old and great short stories from decades ago. The strangeness is set up and then continues to escalate until our hero is backed into the tightest corner available. From there, anything can happen and usually gleefully does. This lurid one-shot does exactly what it needs to, then a little more, and finally it smartly wraps up. Let's all have more of these." - Comic Book Resources

"I love Lobster Johnson and any Mignola-verse one-shots are usually worth the time to read. This issue is no different with a great, pulpy story and some great art to boot. I’m not sure if Wilfredo Torres’s style could work on all Mignola series but if we get more Lobster Johnson stories in the future I definitely think we have a perfect fit for such a fun character." - iFanboy

Mind MGMT #4

"Kindt's "Mind MGMT" #4 is another terrific installment. The series feels fresh and original, I love the fact that we get multiple back-up stories by Kindt in each issue as well, and the hidden messages and clues throughout the book is all the more reason to buy each individual issue. Do yourself a service and read this book." - Comic Book Resources

"This satisfying feeling is something that most writers aren’t capable of delivering. Readers want their cake and to eat it too, but Kindt manages to keep reader’s satisfied with something abstract and intangible. To date, Mind MGMT is the only series I have rated at an A level for every issue, and it continues to garner every bit of that with this one." - Comic Booked

Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison #4

"This is my favorite issue of this series to date, and all but solidifies the fact that this is the best Star Wars comic to come from Dark Horse in quite some time." -IGN

"If you haven't been reading Dark Horse's great Star Wars books, whether you are a fan of the original franchise or not, you should read Star Wars: Darth Vader and The Ghost Prison. It is must reading for fans of smart sci-fi action/drama." - Comic Book Bin
