Round Two with Brian Wood @ Comics Bulletin

Brian Wood is one of those names that keeps coming up more and more in comics. From his work on beautiful creator-owned works like Local, Northlanders, and Demo to licensed work like his recent Conan series and his forthcoming Star Wars series for Dark Horse, and much much more, he's proven himself to be one of the top writers working in comics today.

ON SALE THIS WEEK IN REVIEWS

Angel & Faith #13

"Angel & Faith" #13 is another solid chapter in a series that has rapidly eclipsed its parent title. Gage and Isaacs are taking a slightly strange odd couple of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" universe and making it compelling and inviting reading. This is how a media-tie-in comic series should be handled. Good show, Gage and Isaacs." - Comic Book Resources

"Angel & Faith #13 definitely leaves the reader aware that next issue should be very interesting on multiple fronts, and I can’t wait to read it." - Three If By Space

Axe Cop: President of the World #2

"Axe Cop isn’t genius because there are some kind of special cute-kid rules for eight-year-old author Malachi Nicolle, Axe Cop is genius because it’s the best stream of consciousness writing since Hunter S. Thompson discovered hallucinogenics. You can’t turn away from Axe Cop because it’s too amazing. If you do, then you’re only hurting yourself." - Crave Online

"It's beyond over the top -- Axe Cop doesn't have a top -- it just keeps going and going, getting bigger, crazier and sillier with every page. Get on the Axe Cop train, because it won't stop to pick you up." - IGN

B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: The Return of the Master #1

"The title's debut issue serves as a mere setup for what's to come, but writers Mike Mignola and John Arcudi don’t just fill it with dull exposition that serves a utilitarian purpose; here, every scene is well-crafted and vital for the overall picture." - Complex

"Lots of questions and not a lot of answers in B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth The Return of the Master #1. But it feels like all of those lose ends and vagrant stories are coming together, and with this series Dark Horse has finally thrust a stake in the ground and said The End Starts Here. " - Comics Bulletin

The Goon #41

"Over the years, Powell’s gruff, antisocial Goon has punched, stomped, and bludgeoned a whole assortment of hideous monsters, and has become a cult icon along the way. If you haven't given the series a chance, now is the perfect time." - Complex

"Powell adapts the tone of the comic monthly, and each issue shows how great a storyteller he is.  Aside from being versatile, Powell builds in a depth to his characters and stories.  Clearly he loves this character, and his respect for The Goon comes through in his respect for the reader via intricately plotted but simple to follow stories." - Comic Bastards

Mass Effect: Homeworlds #4

"Mass Effect fans probably already have been reading the Homeworlds series, but if you have not, you really should check them out.  They are great stories that fill in the Mass Effect Universe." - VG Revolution

"The final installment of the Homeworlds series is here, we jump in with Liara T’soni before the Mass Effect 3 storyline kicks off. 4 out of 5 Stars" - BAMFAS

Star Wars: Darth Maul—Death Sentence #2

"I’ve been critical of Tom Taylor’s recent work, but he and his art team have sold me on this series. If they can keep delivering crescendos of this type, I may be picking this series up in trade in addition to the individual issues. I even like the use of the villagers as Shakespearean narrators. There’s a lot of bang for your buck here, so snag a copy while they last!" - IGN

"The incredible action sequences in this issue give the series an adrenaline boost of epic proportions." - Fanboy Comics
