ON SALE THIS WEEK IN REVIEWS

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Spike #2

"Victor Gischler nails the voice of Spike, whose TV-verse swagger just drips off of him with every piece of dialogue." - Bloody Disgusting

"Spike continues to have quite the amount of lines in narrative and dialogue. Also the art is impeccably badass this issue, both in making Spike out to be one chill mother, as well as introducing a fiercely lovely new leading lady." - Three If By Space

Dark Horse Presents #16

"…if you truly love comics (and I doubt you'd be reading this if you didn't) then you owe it to yourself to give Dark Horse Presents #16 a try. I’ll certainly be back for next month’s issue and once you’ve had your first taste I think you will be too." - Comic Bastards

"I will not judge the writing or art in this book as a whole since so many different creators contributed.  But, it is a magnificently put together package, and I found plenty I liked, and liked in a different way than other things in the same issue.  Nothing feels wasted or too redundant, though Dark Horse Presents clearly has a certain kind of audience in mind.  Dark Horse Presents is easy to recommend.  Any pull list ought to have a solid anthology on it, and this one’s as solid as they come." - Fanboy Comics

Fatima: The Blood Spinners #4

"Like an overly ambitious B movie, Fatima tries to mash multiple genres and tropes together: zany science fiction used as a platform for vague social commentary, and as a crutch when a deus ex machina is needed; a taut conspiracy thriller featuring the always popular double cross, and a shadowy government organization that can’t be trusted; and an apocalyptic love story that is both genuinely sweet- as is to be expected from either Hernandez brother – and gore-laden. The effect is oddly mesmerizing, and highly recommended. Zombie culture is still reaching a critical mass in culture, and soon, but before you’re sick of it all, enjoy the camp of this book." - Geeks of Doom

"The conclusion to this mini-series comes with resolution of sorts, though it's a bit unclear as the story has creator Gilbert Hernandez's typical disjointed narrative. It's not a bad thing. It's just a thing. The ending is intentionally open allowing for future tales. The artwork is hip and stylish. 8/10" - Technorati

Ghost #0

"DeConnick and Noto have a good set up to the miniseries.   I give Ghost a 4/5." - Comic Book Therapy

"Kelly Sue DeConnick is quickly becoming a big name in the comic industry. She's known for her character work and snappy dialogue, both of which are on display here. Ghost #0 doesn't exactly have the most fascinating plot, but it boasts some nice character moments and more than a few great lines." - IGN

Lobster Johnson: Caput Mortuum

"Lobster Johnson: Caput Mortuum" is a very well created, fun and smart book. There is an old school sensibility to this title, as well as the character and his world, and everyone on the creative team works to ensure an authentic vibe is constructed." - Comic Book Resources

"Lobster's latest one-shot, Caput Mortuum, is the most exciting and energetic mainstream superhero comic to hit shelves this week." - Complex Magazine

Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison #5

"This series continues to amaze in the way it flips the roles of hero and villain. Character otives are complex and full of passion. This adds to the tension of the story. The art is expressive and the layouts innovative. And the sucker-punch at the end is outstanding. The creative team deserves major props." - Technorati

"If you have become jaded in regards to Star Wars comics (or even Star Wars in general), I urge you to check this series out. From start to finish, it has been a high quality exploration of the nature of the Empire and those who would sacrifice their lives to protect it. Brilliant stuff." - IGN
