THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Baltimore: The Widow and the Tank (one-shot)

""Baltimore: The Widow and the Tank" is a horror comic fan's dream with smart tension and slickly delivered chills. These tales are also punchy enough to know they should do what they do best and then end. Nothing is overdrawn here. If you like classic horror pulp literature anthologies, then this comic is a must buy. It does what many modern horror comics attempt to do and fail at, it brings a sense of wonder and joy at new ideas that make you think while also feeling the hairs on your neck move a little." - Comic Book Resources

"These aren't essential chapters in the saga of Baltimore, but they are definitely worth checking out, and subtly add to the rich tapestry of the ongoing tale." - Newsarama

The Black Beetle: No Way Out #2 (of 4)

"Black Beetle: No Way Out #2 might not blow you away with its plot, but this character is one that everyone will want to see more of in the future. Francesco Francavilla has created something truly great, and after only two issues people will be begging for Black Beetle to carry on further than four issues. How could they not when you will have so much fun reading this comic?" - Read Comic Books

"The art in Black Beetle #2 is, again, absolutely stunning, awash as it is in thick atmosphere and shadow, punctured sparingly by bright flashes. Altogether, it's an unbridled pleasure to look at, with even the panels accentuating its visual storytelling, often becoming as kinetic as the story itself. While we're on the topic, is it too soon to ask about Black Beetle apparel? I would rock the snot out of a black shirt with his red symbol, or something more noir-specific, like an old playbill or movie poster. Hell, know what? Just print the damn book on t-shirts. I'd wear them." - Comic Bastards

BPRD: 1948 #5

"From a written and artistic standpoint, this was a very, very solid issue with some great moments." - Multiversity

"There’s no faulting Max Fiumara’s art. Humans and monsters are gloriously distorted blurring the line between what’s monsterous and what’s not. I love the conversation on Pages 7 – 9 and what’s in their glasses. Deliciously deviant!" - SciFi Pulse

Conan the Barbarian #13

"If Dark Horse is smart, they will already have Mirko Colak signed up for something else. I hope it is more Conan. Because talent like this deserves more than just two issues. And readers like us deserve this level of talent." - Comics Bulletin

"I am pretty excited about the new arc as Brian Wood continues to deliver issue after issue on Conan. 13 issues in and I continue to enjoy every bit of it as I did the first issue. If you've already been on the Conan bandwagon then its pretty easy to get excited with whats to possibly come and for new readers issue 13 is probably not as exciting as to old readers but a great jumping on point with enough to draw you in. Pick it up." - A Comic Book Blog

Dark Horse Presents #21

"I could go on and on about this issue; after all there were great stories like Finder, Tiger Lung and Cat’s in the Cradle that reminded me a lot of what Nix Comics Quarterly does with its anthology, but you need something to read right? There isn’t a bad story in this issue so if you pick it up expect a great read. For me, this was probably one of the best issues in the anthology since it’s relaunch." - Comic Bastards

"For $7.99, this collection of 11 comics is a hundred kinds of worth it.  Honestly, I'd pay eight bucks for Neil Gaiman's "The Day the Saucers Came", "Cat's in the Cradle", Arcade Boy and Villain House alone.  Can you guess what my favorites were?" - Red Shirt Crew

Mind MGMT #8

"Here is my one sentence review of this comic. I started rereading it to check something and made it halfway through before I remembered that I wasn’t rereading it for fun. Actually, the real point is that I couldn’t make it through that last sentence without finishing it.

This is a wonderful comic book that you should be reading. The story is unlike anything I have read, and the art is incredible. Seriously, this is the easiest recommendation I have made all month." - Fanboy Comics

"I never pick up this series and think that Kindt is going to “phone in” an issue. I’m always excited to see what amazing journey he’s going to take us on and I find myself captivated more each time I read an issue. However long of a run Mind MGMT ends up being, I will be there for it. This is an amazing series and definitely one of the best things to come from Dark Horse Comics, ever." - Comic Bastards

Number 13 #3

"There is no doubt, the incredibly bright and vibrant work of penciler Robert Love and colorist Heather Breckel betray the violent and dangerous tone of Number 13 #3. It's a disconnect that alienates the reader, and yet within a few pages, you can't imagine another way to visually present such a setting." - Newsarama

"It’s big, an epic story squeezed into the tight space of a comic book page, but given range by the design and layout that grabs inches wherever they can find it.  With the spirit of the Saturday morning cartoons of decades past, Number 13 is fun and imaginative beyond what is expected of it." - Comic Book Bin
