THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Akaneiro #2

"Akaneiro is of the caliber of incredible storytelling that continues to make Dark Horse one of the best, most artistic publishers in the business, and the second issue is a must-have. The Miyazaki-meets-Hellboy patois is endearing, its protagonist a stolid outcropping in raging rapids, desperate to keep her moral code and values in the face of overwhelming odds." - Graphic Policy

"While Akaneiro is not a break-through comic of the ages, it is an interesting concept that continues to be executed at a high level by a talented creative team. Here's to hoping this strong, female-driven story ends on a similarly high note with the final issue. Judging by what I've read so far, all signs point to success." - Newsarama

Amala's Blade #3

"I've said it before and I'll say it again. Amala's Blade is good comics. There are industry pros and entire publishers that need to have a good long look at what's between these covers. It's rare that you get a trio of writer, artist, and character that are so dynamic." - Comic Book Bin

"As far as lead characters go, theres still so much to learn about Amala than is provided in these pages, but Horton does an impressive job creating a likable character that possesses such questionably unlikeable traits. Heres hoping both writer and artist have more Amala goodies up their sleeve because one more issue doesn't seem like enough." - Bloody Disgusting

Angel & Faith #23

"Angel and Faith is a must read for Buffy fans and accessible for newer readers like myself. With only a few issues to go Gage and Issacs are pulling out all the stops. This is a highly entertaining series." - Unleash the Fanboy

B.P.R.D.: Vampire #4

"I think this series is firing on all cylinders. Each issue has thrown my expectations up higher and higher, yet still this one seemed to effortlessly surpass them." - Multiversity

"Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon have not run out of ideas; their art for this series is as visually arresting as ever. The striking colors by Dave Stewart remind that B.P.R.D.: Vampire is a graphical narrative. The pictures tell a story that is as impressionistic and psychological as it is literal. You have to read the art and graphics to get the full impact of this story. I'm ready for the finale." - Comic Book Bin

King Conan: Hour of the Dragon #2

"The second issue of King Conan: Hour of the Dragon confirms what I already suspected -- that we have a masterpiece on our hands."" - Comics Bulletin

"A lot of the creepiness and danger of this installment is due to Giorello's visceral lines, whether it's a rotting skeleton or a man's eye bashed out. So far, this series is everything I want out of a Conan comic." - Newsarama

"Overall, issue #2 is a step up from #1 simply by virtue of the pace of its storytelling. The backstory is out of the way and now we can see Conan doing what he does best: bashing heads, creeping through dungeons and fighting wizards. Luckily, it's what Truman and Giorello do best as well." - Comic Book Resources

The Last of Us: American Dreams #3

"Julian Totino Tedesco's cover for this issue is incredible and scary as hell. Faith Erin Hicks' art continues to shine. I wouldn't have pegged her style as the sort that would work with a lot of action, but damn if she didn't deliver this issue, pulling off both chases and more violent action scenes." -Fanboy Comics

“The Last of Us: American Dreams” #3 continues to provide fans of the game with additional material to expand the critically acclaimed universe, and leads readers to a pretty exciting cliffhanger ending featuring the introduction of another familiar character." - Bloody Disgusting

The Massive #13

"Wood knocks it out of the park once again, as the story arc goes Water World and reminds me of that scene in The Day After Tomorrow in the flooded streets of the city, but the Massive series is much better than both those movies put together, that’s a given." - Comics the Gathering

"Brian Wood continues to shape this epic tale, and he continues to leave new clues as to where this might be heading. Originally, Wood had commented that this story was going to be approximately 30 issues in length and, assuming that hasnt changed, were close to hitting the half way mark. To use an unintentional pun, Wood and The Massive crew of artists continue to build steam and continue to impress on a monthly basis. There is still a long way to go and a whole lot more to explore with this story. Youll be sorry if you wait until its all said and done to read it." - Read Comic Books

Mind MGMT #12

"Once again, Matt has gone above and beyond for the reader. So, once again, he receives yet another perfect review score. This is what books should be like. This should be the bar. His “one man band” approach to this book really makes a huge difference in continuity, experience, and an overall feeling of “staying true to the underlying message”, that is too often missing from most mainstream books." - Unleash the Fanboy

"There's a reason Mind MGMT Volume 1 appeared on Amazon.com's best comics of the year so far. Anyone looking for something a little different, but still in the realm of fantasy and science fiction look no further. There's something invigorating going on in this comic and it's so interesting and reflective of the real world that I won't be surprised when somebody writes an essay on how game changing this series is for the comic world at large." - Adventures in Poor Taste

Sabertooth Swordsman #4 (Digital Exclusive)

"If this is the quality that Dark Horse is going to publish with its digital only imprint then I’m all for it. I will definitely be buying this book in print, but until then I’ll enjoy every digital issue of the series. If you’re looking for something fun, different and entertaining then this is it. In a lot of ways it reminds me of Monkey Brain Comics releases, but with a more consistent release schedule." - Comic Bastards

Star Wars: Legacy #4

"Star Wars: Legacy Volume 2 #4is an excellent comic book that easily earns some serious praise. Highly recommended." - Unleash the Fanboy

"Picking up the outstanding groundwork established in the original Legacy series, and creating some new outstanding work of their own, the creative team of Corinna Bechko andGabriel Hardman continue delivering the goods with the new Star Wars: Legacy, Vol. 2, focusing on a descendant of Han and Leia, named Ania Solo." - Geeks of Doom
