Manga Monday: Come See Us This Weekend At Kumoricon

08/25/2014 4:01pm
This Labor Day weekend, August 29 through September 1, is Kumoricon…held just across the mighty Columbia from Portland, OR in Vancouver, WA. That means Portland’s very own publisher of Japanese manga, novels, and art books, Dark Horse Comics, has to be there—especially because Kumoricon has now grown to a four-day event!
First of all, come see us at our booth in the Exhibits Hall, located in the ballroom of the Red Lion at the Quay, one of the two hotels with Kumoricon events (the other is the Hilton Vancouver, just down the street and across from the park). We’ll have a selection of items for sale, including your first chance to buy the Hatsune Miku manga omnibus, Unofficial Hatsune Mix, by Miku’s creator, KEI!
We’ve got three panels at Kumoricon, all of which will be in the Hilton (not the Red Lion, where our booth is located). The first is the Oh My Goddess! 20th Anniversary Panel, taking place on Saturday at 10 AM in Panels 1, located in the Hilton’s Discovery B room. Dark Horse Comics first released Kosuke Fujishima's Oh My Goddess! in August 1994. This August 2014, we released Oh My Goddess! Vol. 46. It's the fans who have made Oh My Goddess! the longest-running manga series in the English language, and you're invited to come celebrate at the 20th Anniversary Panel to look back on the series’ history, and hear news about its future! We’ll be honored to have as our special guest on the panel the longtime letterer and retouch artist of Oh My Goddess!, Susie Lee of Studio Cutie.
Our second and third panels are both on Monday morning. The Dark Horse Manga Panel will be Monday, 10 AM in Live Events, located in the Hilton’s Discovery C/D/E. Please come join us with your questions, to see previews of some of our upcoming books including Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Oreimo: Kuroneko and Satoshi Kon's OPUS, news on future titles, plus announcements! We'll be giving away prizes, too!
A half hour after that panel ends will be the panel Aoki Uru: GAINAX’s Lost Project, Found, taking place Monday, 11:30 AM in Panels 2, located in the Hilton’s Heritage F. Studio GAINAX made legendary anime such as Evangelion and FLCL (not to mention Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt ^_^) but their greatest unmade project is the film Aoki Uru, also known as Uru in Blue. At this year’s Cannes Film Festival, GAINAX announced the project is back on. But what was Aoki Uru supposed to be, anyway? Come take a look at the surprising history of the project with little-seen footage and interviews from the early days of the studio!
See you all there!
