Meet the Editor: Aaron Walker

I’ll let you in on a little secret: every day that I’m at work, just to make sure that I’m not really just dreaming it all, I have to take a moment to pinch myself. In fact, I just did it a moment ago.
I mean, I make comics for a living—how is that not the definition of a dream job? Better yet, I get to make those comics for Dark Horse! When it comes to quality and diversity of content and product, no other company in the industry can hold a candle to us, and it is a great honor for me to be a part of the Dark Horse editorial team. I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work alongside this group of creative, intelligent, and dedicated people.
When it comes down to it, building a great company—much like creating comics, now that I think of it—is a collaborative process, and everyone at Dark Horse contributes to its enduring success. From the hardworking individuals in the warehouse, to the talented teams in sales, licensing, and marketing, to our brilliant in-house production and design experts, they all contribute. And let’s not forget who makes everything possible in the first place: the creators of the comics themselves!
Speaking of whom, there are two projects I’m currently working on that I’m so pumped up about, I just have to take this opportunity to tell you about them.
The first is a miniseries called The Tomorrows—it’s written by Curt Pires, and each issue features art from one of six different amazing artists: Jason Copland, Alexis Ziritt, Ian MacEwan, Andrew MacLean, Liam Cobb, and Kevin Zeigler. It’s set in a dystopian future in which art is illegal, and anything resembling freedom is on the verge of annihilation—unless the counterculture freedom fighters collectively known as the Tomorrows can stop it! I’ve been a fan of Curt’s thought-provoking, reality-bending work since discovering the Theremin series he did over at Monkeybrain, and I previously had the pleasure to work with both him and Jason Copland on another remarkable series they created called POP. Issue #1 of The Tomorrows goes on sale July 8—be sure to pick it up!
The second project is This Damned Band, a miniseries from writer Paul Cornell and artist Tony Parker. Paul is the virtuoso writer behind some of the best Doctor Who episodes ever, and he’s also made quite a splash in comics by writing various books for Marvel and DC. Tony’s exquisite art has graced the pages of, among others, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and Mass Effect: Foundation. This Damned Band is a dark comedy about the most popular (fictional) rock band of the seventies, Motherfather, who pretend to worship the devil, but it’s all just an image . . . That is, until they actually do attract the attention of the devil! You’ll definitely want to get a copy when the first issue hits the stands August 5.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to read Paul’s latest script for This Damned Band.
But first, I’m going to have to pinch myself again.
