Happy Presidents' Day, comic fans! Did you know Andrew Jackson was the first president born in a log cabin and Jimmy Carter was the first president born in a hospital? It's true! Did you know that Warren G. Harding wore size 14 shoes? That's also true! While in office, Grover Cleveland personally answered the White House phone while, later on, Calvin Coolidge refused to use the telephone as president. Facts! True facts! And Abe Lincoln? Not only was he the tallest U.S. President in history, he was also the first to wear a beard!

Well, I could rattle off presidential trivia all day, but let's get down to business.

Welcome to the Dark Horse blog, I'm publicity coordinator Jim Gibbons! Let's take a look at the top Dark Horse news on the 'net from the past seven days in this week's "Dark Horse in the Headlines!"

Finder
Last Wednesday, the first Dark Horse published installment of Carla Speed McNeil's celebrated Finder series hit comic shops. The premiere of Finder: Voice led to a great collection of complimentary links. To begin with, Comics Alliance's "Don't Ask, Just Buy It" column featured Voice as their top recommendation of the week. CA followed up that post with a preview of Voice and the premiere of two color Finder pages from the upcoming relaunch of Dark Horse Presents. That article featured this rad compliment from Comics Alliance's head editor Laura Hudson: "Finder is, literally, my favorite comic book. I used to force copies of Finder collections like "Dream Work" and "Talisman" into the hands of my friends, begging them to take them home and read them, hoping they would find in them what I found: an intricate, fully-realized world that married the feudal and the futuristic in a way that was irresistibly engrossing, with roots that spread deep and wide into the realms of sociology, magic, and digital existence."

The links, and compliments, didn't stop there. Miss Hudson also wrote a column about her love of Finder for ComicBookResources.com's Robot 6 blog: "Finder offers a window into a fantastically imaginative and detailed world, and as a special favor, forgoes exposition in favor of letting you explore it on your own. It comes to life not simply because it is great storytelling, but because it is great comics, which means that it uses every tool at its disposal—both textual and visual—to create a vivid, living place I could never have seen or understood quite as well in any other medium."

Last but not least, Newsarama interviewed Miss McNeil about Finder, Suvudu ran a story linking to the new Finder website and the Fantastic Fangirls blog wrote up a great review of Voice.

Dark Horse Manga
Not only did Dark Horse just win a Gem Award for Manga Publisher of the Year, About.com has nominated three Dark Horse titles in their Manga Readers Choice Awards. Go log in a vote for the Chobits Omnibus Edition, POP Wonderland: Cinderella and Okimono Kimono today!

UGO's Best 50 Best Graphic Novels List
Speaking of recognitions of great comics work, Dark Horse had four titles listed in UGO's run down of the best 50 graphic novels of all time. Sin City was the highest ranked series for Dark Horse in the #4 spot with Concrete at #16, Heart of Empire at #33 and Umbrella Academy at #43.

Valentine's Day
A big thanks to Wired's Geek Dad, CBR's Robot 6 and Bleeding Cool for helping us spread the love this Valentine's Day by linking our little online e-cards. Thanks, guys!

Previews, Review and Interviews
-CBR showcased the first interiors from King Conan: Scarlet Citadel #1.

-iFanboy reviewed Jason Little's Motel Art Improvement Service: "From start to finish, Jason Little brings this stand-alone to life with his use of bold colors and clean line work while, in the book's landscape format, creatively plays with panel layout that adheres to the various moods and emotions of the book. It was the close-to-cartoon look that made it very accessible and kept this surreal tale from becoming something that read as trying to be realistic. While the story was a bizarre adventure, Little did not convert his players into caricatures, instead kept them recognizable and relatable allowing for an emotional connection to the material."

-Comics Alliance premiered the first look at Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth #1.

-Newsarama loved Mighty Samson #1: "The only word I can use to describe Mighty Samson is 'entertaining.' With tons of action, lots of emotion, and just densely packed storytelling, Mighty Samson stands head and shoulders above his sword-swinging competition."

-Newsarama displayed some rip-roaring preview pages from Conan: Road of Kings #3.

-Georges Jeanty chatted with SlayAlive about his work on Buffy and the future of the series.

-io9 gave fans their first look at pages from the upcoming Dollhouse one-shot.

-'Rama aka Newsarama displayed pages from Usagi Yojimbo #135. (Also, check out this great column about Usagi on CBR as well as an interview with Stan Sakai over at The Daily Cross Hatch!)

-Get your first look at Witchfinder: Lost and Gone Forever #2 over at CBR.

Thanks for stopping by to kick off your week with "Dark Horse in the Headlines." We certainly appreciate your patronage of our humble blog efforts!

Did you know Harry S. Truman used to wake up at five a.m. in order to practice the piano for two hours. He's also the first president to give a televised speech and travel underwater in a submarine, not to mention the only president from Missouri. Also, he has no middle name, only the middle initial "S." Boom! Fact attack! Have a terrific Presidents' Day, folks! --- JIM Gibbons
