We asked artist Gabor to tell us about the inspiration for this powerful, female-focused saga. Not only did he tell us about it, he also drew this incredible work of art depicting Isabellae riding a Dark Horse! Here's what he had to say about the journey to Isabellae!

"All adventures begin without warning. You don’t know whether what's ahead will be exciting, challenging, frustrating, or encouraging. You don’t know how long the journey will be, where it will lead, what the destination holds… or that there might be a thousand more adventures ahead. Isabellae started like this. We were only two at the beginning of the trip. Two excited artists wanting to have fun, no matter how remote our host cities were. At some point along the way, we would meet to undertake a seven years' journey in which our cast of characters joined, starting with our beloved Isabellae. After her, Masshiroi, Jinku, and Qiang completed our “Chanbara” staff in which we heard the rattling of their swords.

Many other adventurers accompanied us to make this journey possible. The Bravest, the publishing team at Le Lombard was the first to climb onto the rumps of their horses to raise their weapons as a sign of strength and union.

And now, from the mists, a silhouette of a spectacular Dark Horse gives us all the strength necessary for Isabellae to continue riding, this time across the American fields.
