Colder Omnibus

"Colder is a series that sits with you, I mean really sits with you. The first time I saw the cover (first used in issue #1), I couldn’t get it out of my head. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love all things creepy and unsettling, but something about the anatomical impossibility of Declan’s hand in his face achieves a level of macabre specificity that perhaps only Juan Ferreyra can pull off. That intensity and feeling of unsettling incomprehension continues throughout the rest of the series—from Nimble Jack's expressive malevolence to Swivel’s chilling “hobby,” the monsters that Paul Tobin creates are masterfully twisted and the ingenuity of the plot makes Colder a must-read series every spooky season." -Rikki, PrePress Technician

"Are you ready to get spooky? The men, women, and other creepy crawlies of the B.P.R.D. are the perfect company for Halloween. I completely love the entire run of the B.P.R.D., but it really hits its stride during the Hell on Earth storyline. The artwork will make you cringe and feel uncomfortable, but that is part of the fun! Right? Particularly the images conjured up by James Harren… You might feel the need to turn away from the page, but you must steel yourself and carry on. It’s not all gore, Lovecraftian horrors, cryptids, demons, and were-jaguars. There is a surprising amount of heart. Yes, let your cold, dark heart feel some emotions. I dare you to read The Long Death and not have feelings. Read it in the dark to magnify the scare factor, and also so no one can see you cry. I’m not crying, you are!!!" -Arc, Digital Sales Manager

"There was some spooky stuff going on in Victorian England! Hyperborean ghost-monsters, eel people, secret societies, crazy machines that split the fabric of reality, vampire conspiracies...you name it! Luckily Sir Edward Grey, Her Majesty's Witchfinder, was there to put a stop to such dastardly occult doings, though not without incident or cost to himself and those around him. Mike Mignola teams up with a wide variety of excellent artists and writers to bring you a perfect balance of horror, intrigue, and supernatural shenanigans in these awesome comics! Series 1-5 are available now in trade paperback, and issue #1 of series six, The Reign of Darkness, comes out at the end of November! These comics are winners, go read them!" -Jenny, Assistant Editor

'If you want a new story to read this Halloween, we have the perfect choice for you in Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter. Sink your teeth into this deliciously monstrous affair filled with the nostalgic horror we all adore on every single page. As this is a brand new series (issue #1 on sale October 23!) I won’t give away too much except to say that you do not want to miss our latest horror monsterpiece!" -Megan, Editor

"What I think makes Aliens: Dead Orbit a stand out story in the Aliens universe is that it eschews the conventions that have become mainstays in Aliens storytelling and opts for a more terror inducing, isolating approach. Coupled with James Stokoe’s eyeball melting, over stimulating visuals, Dead Orbit makes for a viscerally compelling horror story that drives home the old Alien tagline: In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream." -Anthony, PR Coordinator (and mustache king)

"Featuring the greatest paranormal investigator team-up of all time—Hellboy and the Beasts of Burden Hill—this collection of the Eisner Award-winning series is a purrfect October read. Beasts of Burden: Neighborhood Watch marks the first time these five stories have been collected, including Sacrifice (Evan Dorkin, Mike Mignola, Jill Thompson) and the recent The Presence of Others #1-2, with artist Benjamin Dewey joining in. These tales are by turns creepy, startling, gruesome, heart wrenching, and heartwarming. They feature an endearing cast of (almost) Wise Dogs and cats, unexpected monsters, and rich, moody art by Thompson and Dewey. Whether you’re new to Beasts of Burden or a longtime fan, this collection will grab hold of you and, I expect, keep you for a while." -Cara, Social Media Manager

"When I started at Dark Horse, the very first thing everyone told me to read was Harrow County, and oh man, were they right. The Southern gothic tale that follows Emmy on her quest to be a good person when all is stacked against her is as inspiring as it is terrifying. Each twist of Cullen Bunn’s writing adds another layer to the magnificently intricate world that is Harrow County and I couldn’t get enough. And one can never say enough about Tyler Crook’s watercolors— they are perfect, creepy, and beautiful in every way. Also after reading Harrow County, I legitimately had a nightmare about a boy without skin, so there’s that." -Kate, PR Associate

"House of Penance is chilling in every way in its construction. Beyond the surface level spooky and chilling imagery, there’s an aspect of relatability with the absolute devastation in the Winchester story. As Sarah devolves into a madness after the loss of her husband and daughter, the fantastic nature of the story is able to break through the madness to a place of realism, making a powerful impact on the reader. In addition, living in the world of 2019, the subtext of the effect of guns on society cannot be ignored. Come to this story for the scares, but stay for profound nature of the message." -Brett, Assistant Editor

"Manor Black is a perfect blend of nostalgia and nuance, a spooky tale of dangerous magic and centuries-old family drama. A Dark Shadows for fans of southern gothic horror. Crook’s masterful panels flicker with light and warmth amidst an icy darkness, inviting the eye to wander in, around, and through every frame as dread and tension build to fever pitch. Perfect reading for a dark and stormy night." -Kari, Director of International Licensing
