In Memory of Gene Colan

06/24/2011 2:07pm
We were saddened to learn that comics great Gene Colan passed away this week. Gene built his career illustrating some of comics' most famous characters, and his unique, instantly recognizable style and dynamic layouts made him a fan favorite across several generations. As a young comics reader in the early days of the Marvel Universe, I was immediately attracted to his work, my favorites being his runs on Doctor Strange and Tomb of Dracula. You can imagine the excitement we all felt at Dark Horse when he and Marv Wolfman revived Dracula here at Dark Horse years later. His relationship with Dark Horse continued over the years and, as evidenced by his recent work on Creepy, the power of his illustrations never waned. We will miss Gene, but as with all of the comics greats, he lives on through the work he leaves behind.

Please take a moment to look at Gene's incredible work in the extended preview of "Friday" from Hellboy: Weird Tales Vol. 2.
