We are really excited about Buffy Season 9 comics arriving on Comic Shop shelves Sept. 14th and wanted to reach out to fans and get their thoughts about Season 9 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer in general. Whedon fans are legion and probably some of the most generous and passionate we've ever encountered. We're excited to share their enthusiasm for Buffy here on our Blog.

At twenty-five, I’ve been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for most of my life. I was eleven when the show first started, and I didn’t start watching until the third season. I loved it so much that I bought the first and second seasons on DVD. Over the years I’ve bought all seven seasons on DVD. I recently started rewatching my DVDs and rereading the comic books to prepare for Season 9.

I’ve never been a huge fan of comic books but I’ve always read the Buffy ones. When I found out that my favorite show was continuing as a comic book so many years after the show went off the air, I was beyond excited. I was unfortunately in the hospital when Season 8 was introduced, and my dad drove forty-five minutes to the closest comic-book shop to get me the first issue. I thought that Buffy Season 8 was a great continuation of the series. I was pretty disappointed with how it ended, so when Season 9 was announced, my expectations weren’t very high. I’m hoping by now that anyone who might read this has finished Season 8 (or at least read spoilers) because I think what made me dislike it so much was that they took so long to unveil who Twilight really was and I think that it was pretty anticlimactic that it ended up being Angel.

Speaking of Twilight, I think the best part of the Buffy franchise continuing all these years later is that in this age of sparkling, weak vampires, people still want a Slayer. I’ll be honest—I’ve read the Twilight books and I’ve seen the movies, but that “love story” pales in comparison to what we got with Buffy and Angel or even Buffy and Spike.

I’ve been reading a lot lately about Season 9, and my hopes are higher than they originally were when the idea was first announced. I really love Joss Whedon’s idea of taking the comic back to the roots of the show and I can’t wait until September for it to come out.
