Randy Emberlin's Summer Comic Book Art Camp

Dark Horse Alumni Randy Emberlin's Comic Book Art and Animation Summer
Camps are now in their 6th year with Dark Horse Comics as a major
sponsor.  The 4 day camps are open to grades 3 through 9 and offer daily
instruction from Randy in cartoon character design and construction with
lessons in perspective drawing and layout.  Students work on three major
projects during the camp.  They learn to pencil, Ink and color a large
sound effects action poster, an 11x17" comic book cover, designing at
least two characters , (a villain and a hero) using 3-view model sheets
and finally they create a 2 page comic strip in pencil and ink. 
Students also spend an afternoon learning the fundamentals of animation
using the Zoetrope Machine to create12 drawing cycles. Campers enjoy
snacks and watch award winning animation during the two breaks and
lunchtime. Students can take the camp as a 4 half-days or 4 whole-days
and it is now offered in three different weeks during July at Forest
Park Elementary School. The camps continue to attract young artists from
all over Oregon and Washington.
