Comic books are my passion.
I know because after nearly a decade in the industry, I’m still in love with the medium. I read comic books to unwind. I still visit my local comic book shop every Wednesday. Last week, I walked out with more new comics than I’ve ever purchased on a single new-comic-book day. There are so many ongoing titles that I anticipate each month, and, inevitably, even when I set a budget for myself, I’m not able to exclude any of the brand-new titles that catch my eye. And there are many new titles that catch my eye—an artist that has a unique flavor, or a writer with a unique and valuable new perspective.
I could not be more excited about the industry right now, and, more importantly, where it is headed. There are so many incredible new voices and veteran storytellers who are taking their skills in fresh and unanticipated directions.
There is a conversation going on in comics. Things are changing. People are impassioned. People want us to push our boundaries, venture into uncomfortable frontiers, adapt and evolve, and see where this medium can take us. They want us to be better, and there are those that are answering that call. What is beautiful is we have not begun to tap the potential of this medium yet. We have only glimpsed behind the veil. There are endless possibilities. We are our only limiting factor.
Do you have a unique viewpoint? One that nobody else has? Seize it. Create it. Put it out there. Help us be better.
If you want to check out what is currently on my nightstand from Dark Horse, check out Lady Killer, EI8HT, Ghost Fleet, High Crimes, Battlepug, Rebels, Harrow County, and . . . well . . . there are so many others. I don’t want to rob you of the experience of discovering them for yourself. Go to your local comic book store. Find something that looks interesting. Check out what your favorite comic book company is doing or try books from a new one. Give something different a shot. It just might surprise you.
Feed your passion or reawaken it.
Fall in love with comic books all over again.
It’s time.
