The end of the month already? February, we hardly know ye! Hey though, guys and girls, don't worry! I think March is gonna be a great month!

Without further ado . . . I'm Jim Gibbons and this is "Dark Horse in the Headlines!"

Dark Horse Presents
First thing first, it was a big week for Dark Horse Presents in terms of news and promotion. Between the reveal of Paul Pope's Ultra-Rare Variant cover for DHP #1 and the announcement of the creative lineup for DHP #2 (including cover premieres), there was no shortage of news about the classic anthology's upcoming relaunch. Check out the outrageously great Pope cover on ComicBookResources.com's Robot 6, PreviewsWorld.com and Sean T. Collins' blog. You can get the run down of DHP #2 on Robot 6, The Beat, MTV Geek, iFanboy and Pop Culture Zoo. Readers excited about Dark Horse Presents' return can also check out an in-depth interview with Howard Chaykin (who's contributing a story called "Marked Man" to the book) over at MTV Geek! Go now and click some links!

B.P.R.D at Emerald City Comicon
If you're one of the lucky folks attending Emerald City Comicon in Seattle this weekend, you're going to have a chance to enjoy a panel featuring the entire creative team that works tirelessly to put together the best team book on stands: B.P.R.D. The convention will also be the one and only place fans can nab a free, Emerald City exclusive issue of B.P.R.D. featuring an amazing Seattle-centric cover by Guy Davis and Dave Stewart. Check it out at MTV Geek, CBR, Bleeding Cool, Broken Frontier and HyperGeek.ca.

Not enough excellent art for ya? Check out a preview of B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth: Gods #3 over at CBR.

Diamond's Gem Awards
Last week, Diamond announced the winners of their yearly Gem Awards. Dark Horse was awarded the honor of "Manga Publisher of the Year" and you can read more about it on Anime News Network. The news was also reported on Diamond's PreviewsWorld.com website.

Following the announcement, MTV Geek ran a super informative interview with Dark Horse's Director of Asian Licensing Michael Gombos about DH's history and current status as a top manga publisher. A day later, Heidi MacDonald over at The Beat pointed out a few reasons why the Gem Award for "Manga Publisher of the Year" was well deserved. A good week all around for DH manga!

Free Comic Book Day 2011
Dark Horse will be releasing two Free Comic Book Day titles featuring four popular properties this year! Get your first look at the interiors of our Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Wars: Clone Wars, Baltimore and Criminal Macabre stories over at CBR, Broken Frontier, StarWars.com and HyperGeek.ca. Mark your calendars for May 7, folks! It's gonna be a good day!

Supersized and The Guild
So… what's the connection between Morgan Spurlock's Supersized: Tales from Fast Food Culture and Felicia Day's The Guild? The answer: artist Ron Chan! MTV Geek spoke with the up-and-comer about providing some great but gross interior art for Spurlock's book, as well as has fantastic fantasy cover for The Guild: Tink one-shot. It's a great read, so get reading!

Chan will also be on hand at Emerald City Comicon to sign a litho of his The Guild cover. Fans can get a peek at some other, non-Chan interiors to Supersized over at MTV Splash Page as well!

Femina & Fauna
Suicide GirlsFemina & Fauna. Suicide Girls features some racy and NSFW content over at their site, so heads up if you're heading over to check out that link. LA Weekly has a piece on d'Errico if you want the info without the possible nudity. You're call.

Star Wars: Jedi
Go check out this great interview with Scott "The Alley Cat" Allie over at MTV Geek all about his upcoming Qui-Gon Jinn-centric Star Wars series Star Wars: Jedi—The Dark Side. Now this, as they say, is podracing!

Boris Karloff
Sneak a peek at Boris Karloff Takes of Mystery Volume 5 over at CBR's Robot 6! It's a great sample of the book the features great horror comics and a foreword by Saruman himself, Sir Christopher Lee! I suggest giving the preview and book a look so Lee doesn't have cause to utter this Lord of the Rings movie line: "I gave you the chance of aiding me willingly, but you have elected the way of pain."

Usagi Yojimbo
A truly delightful, hilarious and downright fun illustrated interview by Stan Sakai made the rounds this week. In the two-page strip, Sakai interviews his signature creation Miyamoto Usagi and, as should be expected, shenanigans ensue. Robot 6, Comics Alliance and the Fantagraphics blog all linked the comic. Part two of Brian Heater's Daily Cross Hatch interview with Sakai is also well worth checking out!

Reviews
-King Conan: The Scarlet Citadel #1 is definitely this week's winner when it comes to wonderful reviews. Scoring rave remarks from Newsarama, CBR and Comic Vine, this is one series you shouldn't miss! "Giorello gets a lifetime pass to draw this character and his world because he does it with such texture and poise," CBR said. "This issue is a pledge that the rest of the mini is going to be absolute top quality. The last page alone shows you a brilliant image and a pulpy moment that forewarns further Conan levels of greatness."

-Amazon's Omnivoracious blog had a cadre of nice things to say about a bunch of Dark Horse's reprint collections. John Carter of Mars: Warlord of Mars and The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor Volume Two were to top compliment getters, but the Creepy and Eerie archives as well as The Saga of Solomon Kane got nice mentions. "Dark Horse has reprinted these stories in crisp, sharp, black and white pages, drawing attention to the very fine details in expressions--both human and alien, costumes, weaponry, and otherworldly landscapes," Omnivoracious said of Warlord of Mars. "These late-70s stories are alive with ideas, strange spaceships, and exclamation marks. The trade paperback comes with sturdy front and back covers, preventing the hefty collection from buckling or warping with all the loving attention that’s sure to come."

-ComicAttack.net really enjoyed Magnus, Robot Fighter #3: ""The action in this title flies off the pages, and blow by blow, Magnus, Robot Fighter delivers us our futuristic Tarzan full force, never missing a beat. Shooter's writing is solid as he pens one of the most entertaining action titles on the stands this year."

-IGN wrote a nice review of Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Lost Command #2: "It's refreshing to have a take on Vader in which he acts independently for his own methods."

-POP Wonderland: Cinderella got a nice mention on Comics Worth Reading: "I had no idea Dark Horse was putting out storybooks for kids, especially such lovely, manga-influenced volumes. The pastel art is refreshing, and the typical big-eyed manga style makes Cinderella look even more vulnerable and innocent."

-iFanboy raved about Blacksad: "As people say, it is gorgeous. It’s about the best way to do anthropomorphic animal characters, and it’s also a heck of a noir book. The pages just begged to be looked at over and over, from the characters and figures to the lush backgrounds to the masterful colors. It’s a wonder."

-The Age of Reptiles Omnibus got a great write-up on the School Library Journal blog: "The reason why such a venture is successful is that Delgado is an amazing draftsman. His pictures have the weight of reality, even during the moments that could never have happened, such as revenge sequences. He uses thin lines to draw highly detailed scenes, bringing to life a world that has not been seen for millions of years."

-Panels on Pages ran a nice recommendation of Buffy: Tales of the Vampires: "This collection is well worth your time. Buffy fanatics will find a different take on old favorites and fresh newcomers to the lore of their hero. People new to Buffy can find stories that will enrich their experience as they read or watch the more popular entries into the overall tapestry. Vampire fans will find some interesting stories, and a good alternative to the sparkly, emo vamps of Twilight."

-The Portland Book Review had great things to say about volume two of the Flash Gordon Archives: "Flash is a two-fisted bada**. There’s lizard-men, swooping pterosaurs, Ming the Merciless, Crashing rocket ships, Lasers, and even a smokin’ hot Dale Arden in a one-piece swimming suit skiing down a Planet Mongo mountainside, (yeah, that’s what I thought too). The heroes of the Flash Gordon comic book don’t have time to mope about their lives as heroes, they’re too busy whipping bad guys, and outwitting FREAKING SPACE PIRATES! The Flash Gordon archive is fun and exciting. Pull out that old vinyl Queen soundtrack, channel your inner space-ace, and enjoy!"

-Witchfinder: Lost and Gone Forever #1 got a great review from Comic Box magazine in Europe and a nice mention on Comics Worth Reading.

That's it for this week, folks! As always, thanks so much for stopping by to check out all our good work. Your patronage of this PR endeavor is very much appreciated and you spending some time with us here each week brings some warmth to our cold, dark hearts. We do it for you, and we thank you for supporting us! Have a great week and we'll see you back here in seven! -- Jim Gibbons
